Finance
These graphs illustrate a selection of our data on local government finance, showing the 2011-12 budget for local authority spending on a range of services.
NB: The minimum, maximum and mean values, as well as the distribution are calculated based only on authorities of the same type (i.e. in this case, District Councils). Per-household figures are calculated using the 2008 figure for number of households.

Deprivation
The English Indices of Deprivation provide a relative measure of deprivation at neighbourhood (lower layer super output area, or 'LSOA') level. Areas are ranked from least deprived to most deprived on seven different dimensions of deprivation (including income and employment deprivation) and an overall measure called the Index of Multiple Deprivation.
The Indices are designed for small areas, but one way of summarising relative deprivation at local authority district (LAD) level is by calculating the average rank of the LSOAs within the LAD (download average rank data in CSV format). The LADs are ranked according to the average rank of their LSOAs, from 1 to 326 where 1 is the most deprived.

Wellbeing
These graphs illustrate how people rated their subjective well-being in each county and unitary authority. The data is collected and published by the Office for National Statistics. Respondents answered questions on a scale from 0 to 10 where 0 is 'not at all' and 10 is 'completely':
- Overall, how satisfied are you with your life nowadays?
- Overall, to what extent do you feel the things you do in your life are worthwhile?
- Overall, how happy did you feel yesterday?
- Overall, how anxious did you feel yesterday?

Local Maps
DCLG have used ONS wellbeing data in combination with the Acorn geodemographic segmentation to model how wellbeing varies amongst Lower Super Output areas.
